so, big ass post about the Mars show

warning. this IS big. there was so much happening, and I just wanna get all the details straight, plus I like making paragraphs, and I don’t feel like putting the ‘read more’ thingy every time I do it, so bare with me.

So I woke up earlier than I needed, because I was so anxious, and I went to the train station early too, ‘cause I rather wait there longer than stay at home not being able to do anything else because all I can do is think about the show.

So, we got on the train and we got to Lisbon at noon, we had lunch there, it was delicious pizza. then we got a bus and then a train to get to the festival venue. the doors only opened at 3pm, and we got there close to 2, which was good, ‘cause there wasn’t too many people there yet.

So we got in the venue at 3, and we ran to the front of the stage, we got in the 4th row, which wasn’t too bad seeing as we hadn’t arrived that early.

We basically just stood there, we went to buy water, I went to buy a Mars t-shirt, and put my bag away.

The first band was supposed to start playing at 6.30, we even saw them doing their soundcheck, everything was ready for them to go on stage at the scheduled time, but they never did. About 15 minutes before it was time for them to start, the security guards start telling everyone we need to back off like way back, but they didn’t tell us why. So everyone was bitching about it, because we didn’t have a clue of what was going on. We went back like 10 metres or so, and stayed like that for some time, with people arguing with the security guards, who clearly knew about everything but wouldn’t tell us, and them telling us to back off even more, but the people in the back wouldn’t have it, and they didn’t move, which only made it harder for us to know what the fuck was going on, and why so close to the start of the first band.

Then some rude people in the back would just pushing us forward against the security guards. My friend asked the security guard right in front of us why they were telling us to do this, and he legit said ‘do you wanna die? then do as we tell you’, we were like wtf? why would he say that? We spent some more time like that with people calling the security guards names and all that, and then all of a sudden all I see is everyone around us going to the front of the stage again and we also run to go there. Only later we realized that that wasn’t supposed to have happened, but I guess everyone thought of doing the same at the same time.

Then is was already time for the second band (The Pretty Reckless) to have started playing, which they also never did, and we were still wondering what all that was about.

Then some time later, the same thing happens, but this time the police also come to control things a little better, and the organization dude is heard from behind the stage, he’s talking to us on the microphone and telling us that we have to collaborate and do what the security guards tell us and that it is for our own safety. By now, there was this rumour that the whole cause of this mess was Jared, because he wanted a bigger stage and wouldn’t have it any other way, which was just stupid. Even if he did such a demand, and they told him no, he would just move on with his fucking life, play an amazing show nonetheless and not care about that anymore. And it fucking pissed me off that people would just make that shit up about him, especially when it was causing the first two bands to cancel their shows.

So our side of the audience is pushed to the far right side of the stage and finally the policeman tells us what’s going on. Apparently a beam on the stage wasn’t secure enough and the stage would be in risk of falling on our faces if the bands had just played in there with nothing done to it. So while were there just standing and getting even more tired, we could see two cranes on the back of the stage seemingly holding it to its righteous place. But still at the point, there were some stupid people who wouldn’t collaborate and pushed to the against the policemen from time to time. This was the most frustrating part, in part because we couldn’t reach those people and slap them in their fucking fuck faces and also, because we didn’t know anymore if Mars were gonna play. By now, You Me at Six had cancelled too.

So it was I think more than an hour like this, when finally my friend and I start seeing the policemen in front of us smiling and talking to each other like there’s good news, even though they weren’t telling us anything else other than the fact that the flaw in the stage was being fixed as fast and best as they could.

So, by then it was already past 11pm, which was the time Mars should’ve started playing and we were getting desperate and the people in the back were starting push again, and we were getting crammed with almost no breathing space unless we lifted our heads up for some fresh air.

Then the cops started giving little baby steps backwards meaning we were moving fowards, but also that the ones in the back were pushing us even harder and we basically couldn’t move our arms or our feet or anything except for our heads. This was also triggered because finally the stuff from the 1st band had been picked up and we could see those platforms they put on stage for Mars being put there and then I saw the Triad, and the whole world was bright again, because this meant they were going to perform after all that crazy shit we had been through.

We were getting pushed harder and harder and the cops were pushing us too so we were like sardines in a fucking can. There was a point when I was being pushed from all sides, my feet couldn’t almost touch the ground, and my only thought was ‘I’m gonna fall with the next step I take and everyone is gonna step on me and I’m not gonna see Mars. And right then, everyone kinda breaks off, starts running, I start running with my friend, and finally we were in front of the stage with the Triad in the middle, Shannon’s drums, and I was on the fucking 2nd row! I couldn’t even believe how close I would be able to see Jared and I was right in front of where Shannon was going to be, and then Tim, was pretty much in front of us the whole time too, I felt sorry I could see Tomo very well, but I was so fucking happy I had gotten on the 2nd row, and that I could see in between the heads of the two people in front of me I couldn’t really care about that!

At this point the show was already an hour and a half late but I couldn’t care less, ‘cause I was gonna see them again! The show started with ‘Oh Fortuna’ like in the old days, and the first song they played was Kings and Queens, which kind of broke my heart, because I dream of going on stage for that song and I don’t think it’s ever going to happen now. So their show only lasted for little less than an hour, and I even saw a timer on our side of the stage, because everything was so late anyway, and they were the best for not cancelling too, ‘cause I mean, if I was them I would be a little freaked out about going on a falling stage. But we already know they are troopers and that they love their fans and that even if they weren’t going to play an entire show like usual at least they were gonna give it a go and please their family. They didn’t even play Night of the Hunter, which is one of my favorites, but it was all worth it. He called three dudes on stage and took the pic with them there, I can see myself in the picture (I’m so fucking happy about that!) They were the best really.

And this time the show felt a little more real to me. In december, when I saw them for the first time, I guess my thirst and my state of mind made me not being able to believe that I was actually there, seeing them live and that they, my heroes were right in front of me in the same closed space. Yesterday it felt more real, but Jared still just feels like a god to me. Idk, he’s just so fucking perfect, I can’t even deal with it, I know he was right in front of me, but it’s like he wasn’t or it was just a representation of him singing with his perfect voice and with his snuggie, and his beautiful eyes.

I don’t think anyone is actually gonna read this, but I don’t care, I just wanted to register this fucking adventure for posterity. I will love anyone who does read this motherfucking huge post.
